To consume more.
To have more.
To want more.
To get ahead of others, to keep up and have nicer things
To show at the end of your life -
Look at what I’ve done with my time
Look at all the things I’ve accomplished and bought.
While men with power strip rights
Defund a government for people
And fund a government for profit
We believe we can buy money with influence,
That our clothes and zip codes will win in the end.
But the cycle continues,
Least we keep on ignoring it.
We will believe our democracy is intact,
As long as influencers can keep our attention
As long as we can rent to live
But in the end,
What is the life we are chasing
If the wood begins to rot?
I do not know what the future entails,
All I can do is keep collaging.
Keep showing the news and headlines
Keep glueing together a truth
That maybe, Just maybe,
Will highlight this time
And what it felt to live through it.
